Being a college lecturer at that crazy busy time of year, yes, you know when I am talking about…JUNE…students have decided to leave all their work until the final hour and chaos ensues with a constant stream of marking, feedback, and tears. Sooo it is nice to celebrate the hard work of those who have really put their all into their studies.
The STAR awards are Cornwall College’s celebration of those students efforts and commitments and a sparkling night of evening wear, live music and awards ensues! I was asked to make 200 cupcakes to sit on the tables and form part of the goodie bags that all staff and students would receive. The colour theme of the evening was chocolate brown and gold so with very little time (2 days notice!) I opted for a simple yet delicious Vanilla Sponge decorated with a swirl of Chocolate buttercream finished with a sprinkle of beautiful sparkling edible gold stars and glitter. Each cupcake was wrapped individually and finished with gold ribbon and looked very glamorous on the tables adorning each place setting at the Atlantic Hotel in Newquay.
Well it’s been an age since I’ve had chance to do a blog post….not that it means I haven’t been busy spreading the Rosy Cheeks Bakery Love!
It being a lovely sunny bank holiday today this particular Wedding Cake seemed ideal to blog about. The lovely Lorraine of Eclipse Body Art in Newquay went and got herself hitched this year…please see glamorous picture below of the beautiful bride!
Lorraine decided to hold her wedding reception in her very own backyard, and despite the weather trying to put a dampener on this Summer Fete Style Wedding nothing stopped this being an amazing evening in which guests were treated to the likes of hay bales, home-cooked food, camping, and traditional British Fete games – there was even a coconut shy!
With this in mind we decided upon keeping to this theme and creating a mixture of different cupcakes that all worked beautifully together…toadstools, flowers and tiny caterpillars adorned the Wedding Cupcake tower each one secretly filled with delicious caramel that would only be discovered as it was curiously bitten into…anyway enough from me see for yourselves…
Lorraine is an amazing artist and you can check out her work here and while on the subject it would be a perfect time to reveal my cupcake themed tattoo! I gave Lorraine an illustration by one of my favourite artists Kate Wilson. The illustrations are all based on the idea that birds have secret lives and this is the end result – Lorraine I can’t thank you enough! x

More Personalised Birthday Cupcakes to brighten your start to the weekend!
Easter is a time of indulgence with lots of foods involving the word chocolate, in fact, who am I kidding? not so much lots of foods but more lots of chocolate!
These Easter cupcakes are a little something different – a simple vanilla sponge that is light and delicious with a vanilla buttercream coloured and piped to look like grass, then finished with chocolate mini eggs (tradition is tradition) and beautiful little spring flowers.

It’s been a while since I have had a chance to post – what with my day job and the numerous cake orders its been crazy hectic busy! Now it is the Easter Hols and I have time to breath I am going to catch up with a bit of blogging.
This blog post is dedictated to some personalised birthday cupcakes for a young lady called Bronte who loves making cakes almost as much as she does eating them! Her lovely mum ordered a dozen cakes with me and asked for them to be girlie and pink…and we all know that is a Rosy Cheeks speciality!
The cakes are a mixture of chocolate and vanilla all filled with a gooey rich toffee caramel centre which oozes out as you bite in…
No sooner had this order come in – another two popped up as well so I am afraid my blog is going to be a little cupcake orientated for the next couple of posts! However there is a very special birthday cake I have been working on over the past couple of weeks I will be posting up soon…I just have to wait as the recipient reads the blog so its all a little hush hush!
There are two things in this world I love – 1. Anything Vintage 2. Cupcakes. So I was super excited to combine these two things together and create this collection of Vintage inspired Cupcakes. I was given a button mould for Christmas (lucky me!) and couldn’t wait to use it, there is something so satisfying about pushing a tiny piece of sugar paste into the mould and being given in return the cutest little perfectly formed buttons.
I decided to use a colour scheme of blue, pink and yellow adding a touch of Caramel/Ivory Sugarflair to each ball of sugar paste as I mixed the base colour as this adds a beautiful vintage hue.
As I would be using the button mould to create some of my decorations I decided to also include a simple yet delicate quilt like stitching on some of the cupcakes helping bring the theme perfectly together. Finally each and every single detail on each cupcake was lavishly covered in a shimmering edible pearl dust so that they sparkle elegantly as soon as the light catches them.
I think these cupcakes would suit many a different occasion; Wedding, Baby Shower, Birthday, or even just because you think you deserve a treat…am I right?
I have always had a soft spot for my childhood favourite – Mr Whippy Ice-cream. I can remember waiting on a hot summer’s day for the van to noisely rumble down our street with its unmistakable completely out of tune nursery rhyme or ‘jitty’ playing as it tempts all the children out of their front doors like the Pied Piper…
I made these cupcakes with that in mind creating a vanilla cupcake with soft creamy swirls of buttercream and finishing them with a lavish drizzling of caramel sauce, the beauty of these is they can be enjoyed any day of the year whether the summer sunshine is out or not!
Cupcakes have become more and more popular for gift giving…be it to toast the arrival of a new baby, to celebrate a birthday or special event, or maybe even to just add a little edible sparkle at special times of the year such as Christmas, Easter and New Year!
These cupcakes were ordered by one of my closest friends for whom I had also made her wedding cupcake tower. The children at the wedding loved the cakes so much that Louisa wanted to surprise them at Christmas with their own personalised batch of sparkling cupcakes..
I am currently trying to catch up on blog posts having just about recovered from the festive season in which I have been busier than ever creating delicious cakes and treats!
As it was Christmas I decided to add a hint of ginger (a festive spice!) and little miniature gingerbread men for that final festive flare! I should add however that these cakes are to be enjoyed at any time of the year and work just as well without the ginger in all their caramel goodness!
These particular cupcakes seem to be a firm favourite with family and friends due to their indulgently rich gooey caramel centre that oozes out as you sink your teeth in…
Saturday was RosyCheeks Bakery’s first ever Christmas Fair! It seemed only right to include some special limited edition Christmas flavours that are only brought out at this time of year these were:
Christmas Cupcakes – A cupcake filled with Christmas Spices such as warming cinnamon and all spice, as well as sticky raisins, sultanas and dried apricots, topped with a vanilla brandy buttercream and for that extra special festive touch – edible holly berries.
Gingerbread & Caramel Cupcakes – A vanilla and ginger sponge decorated with vanilla buttercream, mini gingerbread men and a swirl of rich toffee caramel sauce.
Simply Snowflake – For the purists! A light moist vanilla sponge topped with a vanilla buttercream and finished with a sparkling edible snowflake.
Chocolate Twinkle Cupcakes – A moist chocolate sponge topped with a gooey chocolate custard and a swirl of chocolate buttercream sprinkled with edible gold stars for that final lavish touch!
As well as the limited edition cupcakes I also served up a choice of double stuffed Oreo Brownies and Chocolate Gooey Brownies. Doggy treats were also on offer as there should always be a choice for the best friend in our families!

RosyCheeks Bakery will be in St Austell this coming Saturday – 26th November 2011 as part of the MAKE Craft Fair from 10am until 4pm. This is a one day get together at St Austell’s fabulous Market House celebrating all things handmade and local. Come and take a look around, eat some delicious Cornish food, listen to local live music, try something new, tell your friends and why not showcase your own crafty skills! The event is the first of many, to celebrate the stunning 19th century building that has soooo much to offer!
